Fix missing leading whitespace with ':append'

Mitigate occurrences where ':append' operator is used and leading
whitespace character is obviously missing, risking inadvertent
string concatenation.

FWIW I tweaked the shortlog prefix in master-next to mesa/dnf: which
resolves this case.
